Can I extend my day conference to include an evening session?

Yes, for an agreed additional fee. The evening session must conclude by 9pm. Please bear in mind that we do not cater for evening meals. There is a hotel in Canonbie that serves bar food.

Are children welcome?

Yes, children are welcome but must remain the responsibility of their parents or carers at all times. We have no designated play areas on the site, however at the end of the lane by the bridge in Canonbie there is a brilliant new play area for children.

If you are planning to bring children to a day conference in Byreburnfoot House please discuss with Julie in advance so that arrangements re lunch can be agreed.

If you are staying in one of our self-catering cottages, a travel cot (no bedding provided) and a high chair are available on request.

What are the arrival and departure times in the cottages?

You may arrive from 4pm onwards and on the departure day, you need to vacate the cottage by 12 noon.

Is there a limit on how many nights I can book in the cottage?

A minimum stay of two nights is required, but you are welcome to extend your stay.

Is Canonbie Christian Retreat Centre accessible for disabled people?

We have a ground floor toilet in Byreburnfoot House which is accessible for those with limited mobility, but is not suitable for wheelchair access. The Garden Cottage has a ramp from the parking area to the cottage and to the garden and is equipped for wheelchair access.

Is Canonbie Christian Retreat Centre accessible by public transport?

The nearest train station is Carlisle and you can get a taxi from there. There is a bus to Canonbie from Carlisle which runs every two hours, and in addition, there is a 25 minute walk to us from the bus stop.

If I book a four-hour retreat, can I choose my arrival time?

Yes, you can choose any four-hour block between the hours of 9.30am and 4.30pm. Please bear in mind that refreshments are included in the price, but not lunch and no food may be brought onto the premises for Health and Safety reasons.

Is it a quiet and peaceful area?

Yes, undisturbed by traffic noise.

Are there any local attractions?

We are a relatively short distance from river walks, Kielder Forest, Carlisle Castle and Museum, Gretna Green, Lanercost Priory, Hadrian’s Wall, the Lake District, Newcastleton 7stanes trails and the coast.

Can I smoke in the buildings?

There’s no smoking or vaping in any of the buildings. Ashtrays can be provided for outdoor use.

Are the cottages pet-friendly?

Sorry, no animals are allowed on the site.
