Our story

Having ministered for 25 years in Romford Essex, the Lord brought me and my wife to Canonbie in Scotland where we purchased Byreburnfoot House, a Victorian country house in the scenic Scottish borders.

The house was built on the River Esk around 1850 by the Duke of Buccleugh for his Head Forester. It’s set in an area rich with historical significance since Canonbie was the site of a medieval Augustinian Priory. It’s also located in the Debatable Lands and close to the Gilnockie Tower Armstrong Centre, once notorious for Reiver activity.

We invited friends who travelled north around the same time as we did, to live with us, creating a small community of believers. Together we’ve refurbished the house, three cottages on the estate and the gardens.

We’d been called to Scotland to prepare spiritually and practically for all that awaits us in the coming days and so we’ve been calling friends, church leaders and prayer groups to come to Canonbie Christian Retreat Centre, here at Byreburnfoot House, to gather together with purpose . . .
